Heralds of Valor

Heralds of Valor was written for the 2022 Austin Trumpet Camp. This heroic piece begins with a melodic fanfare before settling into a crisp, articulate driving groove. The middle portion of the piece presents a strong, militaristic march theme. Intertwined amongst the very trumpet-like music are sections featuring a contrasting broadly-connected, yet mysterious melody.

          Take care not to let the style of the music get too heavy — the 16th notes must stay light and drive ahead, but also have enough tone as to not sound pecky. During the broader, connected sections, the “motor” parts should be just articulate enough to establish a pulse, and note lengths should remain full value. It is key that the on-beat parts and off-best parts lock in together during these sections.
