Fanfare and Celebration was composed for the 2022 Austin Trumpet Camp high school trumpet choir, and ensemble which ended up having 50+ trumpet players in it! Writing a fanfare for a group with so many players in it would of course sound really cool, but I also wanted to present the students with the challenge of staying together as an ensemble on something faster and more rhythmically intricate. As such, the piece opens with a heroic fanfare melody before transitioning to faster music with an alternating 6/8 and 3/4 feel.
One might consider experimenting with the position of the different parts within the ensemble when rehearsing and performing. Often times parts 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8 are paired together, but there are also sections where parts 1-4 and 5-8 are playing together, or odd vs. evens. If playing with multiple players per part, take care not to let the lower parts get overpowered.
