Midsummer Festival

Midsummer Festival was written for the 2023 Austin Trumpet Camp middle school trumpet choir. The piece depicts a joyous celebration which takes place during the summer, a time in my life that I have always associated with happiness and freedom. Upbeat, syncopated rhythmic patterns drive the music forward underneath a fun and catchy melody. A slower chorale variation on the melody is presented in the middle of the piece before the energy picks back up for an exciting finish.

The parts are often, but not always, grouped in pairs of 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8 with unison lines. As such, it is advised that these players are situated adjacent to one another. Frequent use of unison rhythms will help facilitate ease in understanding rhythmic patterns for younger or less experienced players. The accents should not be overdone as to maintain a dance-like quality to the music.
